Waterfront Boardwalk Replacement
Where the water meets the Spirit. So much energy, excitement, peace and experience happen at the FLUMC waterfront. Between the thousands of feet, the nature of wood and mother nature herself, our current boardwalk along the swim area has surpassed its life expectancy. In the fall of 2022, with the help of our NOMADs volunteers, we began looking into the sub structure of the boardwalk and quickly began unveiling its rotten core. The large wood beams that had been holding up the decking are no longer up to the task. So, we began the process of finding a long-term solution that would be eco-friendly, last a long time (50 years) and create a great user experience.
The solution includes decorative concrete blocks to create the “sea wall” and help prevent erosion. This will be topped with an aluminum frame to support the decking, and a decking material made of a PVC that maintains its shape as well as comfort, even in the heat of the summer. These long-lasting, splinter free materials will allow us happy campers and a minimal maintenance waterfront for many years.
As you can imagine, this project comes at a price. We are looking at $25,000 in equipment and materials with all of the labor being done by volunteers.
